This 4-day Serengeti and Ngorongoro safari itinerary is ideal for travelers seeking a short yet rewarding Tanzania wildlife experience. The journey combines the vast plains of Serengeti National Park, famous for the Great Wildebeest Migration, with the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater, one of Africa’s most remarkable natural wonders and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 1: Arusha – Serengeti National Park

Depart Arusha in the morning and travel through the scenic Ngorongoro Conservation Area, enjoying panoramic views of the highlands before descending into the legendary Serengeti plains. Arrive in Serengeti National Park in time for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive.

The Serengeti is home to an extraordinary concentration of wildlife, including lions, elephants, giraffes, cheetahs, leopards, and large herds of wildebeest and zebras.

Day 2: Full Day in Serengeti National Park

Spend a full day exploring Serengeti National Park with morning and afternoon game drives. Depending on the season, you may witness parts of the Great Wildebeest Migration, one of the greatest wildlife spectacles on Earth.

The central Serengeti (Seronera region) offers excellent year-round game viewing, thanks to permanent water sources that attract animals in all seasons. Optional activities include a hot air balloon safari for a unique aerial perspective of the vast plains.

Day 3: Serengeti – Ngorongoro Conservation Area

After breakfast, enjoy a final game drive in the Serengeti before departing for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Travel through changing landscapes as you ascend to the crater highlands.

Arrive at your lodge located on or near the crater rim, where you can enjoy spectacular sunset views overlooking the Ngorongoro Crater.

Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha

After an early breakfast, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a half-day game drive. This natural wildlife sanctuary is home to the Big Five, including the endangered black rhino, as well as large populations of lions, buffaloes, hippos, flamingos, and many other species.

After lunch, ascend from the crater and return to Arusha, marking the end of your 4-day Serengeti and Ngorongoro safari.
